What is client-directed home care?
In Alberta, Client Directed Home Care is a government-sponsored program meant to support Albertans who require assistance with their personal and home care needs. These services are made to help seniors and people with chronic illnesses live their lives in a fulfilling, accessible way.
It is designed for people who need assistance during high-effort times of the day, like getting ready for the day, going to bed, meal times, or chores. The reality is, many Albertans require these services because they can no longer care for themselves properly.
Ideally, the client would already have a primary caregiver that is around outside of working hours. These services are supplemental care for clients requiring daily assistance Monday through Friday during the day.
Qualifications for Home Care Services:
- Alberta resident with a valid health care card
- Your care needs can be safely met in your home
- Requirements determined by an Alberta Health Services case manager are met
